November 2022:
Jessica Westberry
Jessica is an OcTech dual highschool/college student, a versed fiction reader, and a supportive library patron who has gone the extra mile this month and offered to help with the Luau Book Tasting events taking place in the Media Center. She used her reading experience, knowledge of specific titles and book genres, and her knowledge of her peers to help match students with the best book that would peak their interest and hook them into reading. Students really enjoyed hearing her thoughts on what she liked or didn't like about several books and hearing her enthusiasm for reading. Her global/community perspective, work/reading ethic, and interpersonal skills shined bright and were seen by many in the Media Center this month.
- Mrs. Gramling
D'Aria Darby
D'Aria is an OcTech dual highschool/college student, an avid manga reader, and a supportive library patron who has donated a large manga collection to the Media Center for the purpose of adding titles to our existing manga collection. This donation came during collection week for the Thankfuls 4 Books Book Exchange Event, so I assumed she was donating the books to participate in the book exchange taking place the following week. What really struck me is that she expressed she would gladly participate but that she had been intending to bring these donations before she had even heard of the exchange event because she noticed that we didn't have many of the popular titles and she wanted others to be able to enjoy reading the books too. Her self-direction, global/community perspective, and work/reading ethic shined bright this month and will benefit many who will read the titles she donated to the Media Center in the years to come.
